Discovering the Best of Williamsburg, Virginia with Family
Seeking an ideal family holiday spot? Williamsburg, Virginia, is the answer. Between its nearby beach, abundant historical landmarks, and family-centric entertainment, everyone’s sure to find their niche. A mere drive away, we enjoyed a memorable 4-day sojourn, each day bringing its own unique flavor.
Williamsburg’s Top Four Family Activities
- The Essence of Colonial Williamsburg
Central to your Williamsburg trip should be Colonial Williamsburg. Dive deep into 18th-century America in this revolutionary town. Experience life as it was back then, with authentic reconstructions and live performances. Highlights for us included the Governor’s mansion, the printing workshop, the courthouse, and the weaver’s establishment, plus the intriguing brickyard and magazine yard. The vast collection of weapons adorning the Governor’s residence is a sight to behold! Engaging interactions, like a card game at George Wythe’s residence, added layers to our time-traveling adventure. My younger son particularly relished playing roles in the courthouse’s drama. He regarded our day at Colonial Williamsburg as unmatched in experience. Set aside at least a full day for Colonial Williamsburg. While one day offers a lot, spending more helps you delve deeper. Purchasing tickets in advance quickened our entry, and using TripAdvisor streamlined our overall planning. - Adventures at Go Ape Treetop Course
If an adrenaline-packed activity suits your family, Go Ape Treetop Adventure is the ticket. It’s a delightful mix of learning and thrill. Surprisingly, our family, with ages spanning from 3 to 11, found common ground here. My youngest conquered his fears on the Junior Course, and the older kids enjoyed their independent escapades. Meanwhile, my eldest and husband tackled the main course, leaving them yearning for more Go Ape adventures. - The Historical Landscape of Yorktown Battlefield
We took a calmer approach on one of our trip days, exploring the vast Yorktown Battlefield. The intricacies of the defensive structures and the tales they told were captivating. The kids enjoyed playful moments on the fortifications, and the numerous cannons scattered around were a hit. Our stroll led us to the Yorktown Victory Monument, a tribute to the battle that cemented America’s revolution. It’s a place both educational and intriguing for families. - A Day of Excitement at Busch Gardens
For the adrenaline aficionados, Busch Gardens promises a day of exhilarating fun. Our youngest relished the attractions at Land of Dragons and Sesame Street Forest of Fun. The park’s diverse themed sections provide an immersive global journey. With carefully crafted themes and rides for all ages, the park offers a blend of thrill and family bonding. The ‘family swap’ feature ensured everyone got their share of adrenaline rushes. We left with memories, eager for another visit!
